Check item status or location

Use Discover items to search for the item and click on the title details.

In the Holdings For Selected Copy drop down, Item Status is displayed.

In the Copies drop down, Branch location is displayed.

The following sections explain how statuses appear in the WMS staff interface and in WorldCat Local/Discovery for patrons.

Where item statuses display

This table explains where item statuses are displayed in the staff and patron interfaces.

Item status is displayed in two places:

  1. Under the Item Status column on the Copies screen.
  2. On the Item Details screen

Item status is displayed in two places:

  1. Patrons can view an item's status by clicking on the Availability link on the search results screen.
  2. Clicking on an item's title in the search results opens the item's detailed record. Patrons can view item status in the Get it in the library box.

Discovery

Item status is displayed in two places:

  1. Patrons are notified of the number of items available on the search results screen. Available items are shown in the brief display; those unavailable are suppressed.
  2. Clicking on an item's title in the search results opens the item's detailed record. Patrons can view item status in the Availability section, which opens automatically.

This table shows how WMS item statuses appear to staff and patrons.

Available

Item is available for circulation. Should be on the shelf.

Claimed Never Had

 

Not Available

A patron has claimed they never had the item, and a staff member has changed the item's status in WMS. For more information, see Claims lost, returned, never had.

Claimed Returned

 

Not Available

A patron has claimed the item as returned, and a staff member has changed the item's status in WMS. For more information, see Claims lost, returned, never had.

Dispatched

 

On Hold

When an item that needs to be routed to another location is checked in a second time before reaching its destination, the status changes from In Transit to Dispatched.

On Hold

In Processing

 

Not Available

Item has been added or received in WMS Acquisitions or added in WMS Circulation. The length of time an item appears as In Processing in WMS can be set in Service Configuration (WMS Circulation > Location Policy). For more information, see Location Policy.

In Transit

 

On Hold

Item has been checked in at a different branch than the pickup location to satisfy a hold request. The item is routed to the pickup location. The status is In Transit until the item is checked in at the pickup location.

Item has been checked in at a different branch than the holding location. The item is routed to the holding location. The status is In Transit until the item is checked in at the holding location.

Long Overdue (On Loan)

 

Checked Out

Item is checked out to a patron and is long overdue. Items are considered long overdue once they reach the time set in Service Configuration (WMS Circulation > Long Overdue Policy). For more information, see Long Overdue Policy.

Lost

Item has been checked in to satisfy a hold request and is waiting for pick-up by patron.

Overdue (On Loan)

Recalled

 

Checked Out

Item is checked out to a patron and has been recalled by placing a hold.

When an item In Transit is received at its destination and is checked in, the status changes to Recently Received.  Note: This is not the same as receiving an item in WMS Acquisitions.

Recently Returned

 

Available

Withdrawn

 

Item does not display Item has been deleted in WMS. The item will not display in WorldCat Local or Discovery, but will be saved by the system for the time set in Service Configuration (WMS Circulation > Admin/General > Deleted Items). For more information, see Deleted Items.
