Articles from a journal in a database I subscribe to do not appear with a full text link in Discovery

Symptom
  • I subscribe to a journal in a database but when I search for articles from the journal, they do not show up with a full text link in Discovery.

  • The only link shown is Access Online, which leads to the provider's website without access

  • I have checked WorldShare Collection Manager and verified that the coverage depth for the ISSN is Journal - Full Text

Applies to
  • WorldCat Discovery
  • WorldShare Collection Manager

Resolution

In order for the full text link of an article in a journal in a database to be displayed correctly, the common identifier of the article must match in the data records of the selected collection and in the database. For titles from the Central Index, the common identifier is the ISSN and eISSN.

  • Go to WorldShare Collection Manager and search your subscribed journal. The ISSN and eISSN can now be read in the Identifiers column. Then search for the Journal on the provider's website and compare the ISSN and eISSN with the one in Collection Manager.

  • If there are mismatches between the identifiers, it is possible to change the ISSN and eISSN in the journal in the Collection Manager. The identifiers were probably changed by an update of the provider. This can be checked by looking at the title history of the journal in the Collection manager.

  • ISSN and eISSN can be changed in the journal in the Collection Manager under Properties>Global>ISSN/eISSN.

  • After saving, the journal articles should be displayed with the full text link in discovery. It may take some time for the change to be applied in the system.

If problems persist, contact OCLC Support with a with an example article and reference to the journal. We will request an update to the data if needed.
