Administrative actions

These items require immediate action or decisions.

Action

Overview

Previously, consortial member libraries had access to the "Manage Account" configuration tab in their Staff Dashboard. This arrangement led to unintended consequences:

  • Unnecessary duplication of settings
  • Overwriting of configurations between member libraries and the consortium
  • Inconsistent user experiences across the consortium

Action Taken

To resolve these issues, we have centralized the "Manage Account" configuration control:

  • The configuration tab has been removed from member libraries' Staff Dashboards
  • These settings are now exclusively managed at the consortial level

Required Action for Consortial Administrators

Consortial administrators should:

  1. Log in to the consortial Staff Dashboard
  2. Navigate to the "Manage Account" configuration tab
  3. Review and verify that all desired Account features are properly enabled
  4. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure optimal functionality across all member libraries

Benefits

This change will:

  • Establish consistent account management settings across the consortium
  • Prevent configuration conflicts between member libraries
  • Streamline the administration process
  • Ensure a unified user experience for all patrons

New features and enhancements

Polaris Libraries - Hold Display Enhancement

We have improved the display of holds information to better clarify when items are ready for pickup.

When a hold is ready for pickup, the "Expires" date will no longer be displayed to your users. Instead, your users will see a "Pickup By" date, which indicates the deadline to collect the item from the library. This change addresses potential confusion in the hold display. Previously, when an item was ready for pickup, the system would still show an "Expires" date (which could be far in the future), possibly leading your patrons to misunderstand how long they had to pick up their item.

Benefits

  • Clearer communication of pickup deadlines
  • Prevents confusion between hold expiration dates and pickup deadlines
  • More intuitive display of time-sensitive information

Sierra Libraries - Checkouts Display Improvement

We've enhanced the checkout display in the app to help your patrons better manage their borrowed items, particularly those approaching their due dates. The app now displays checkout items sorted by due date (earliest first). This change ensures that items due soon or already overdue appear at the top of your list, making them easier to identify.

This improvement addresses feedback from your patrons who found it difficult to track items approaching their due dates in longer checkout lists. By prioritizing items with the earliest due dates, we're helping patrons avoid unexpected overdue fines.

Benefits

  • Items due soonest now appear at the top of your checkouts list
  • More intuitive organization of borrowed materials
  • Easier identification of items that need attention
  • Reduced risk of overlooking items approaching their due dates

Note: We're continuing to evaluate additional improvements to make overdue items more visually prominent in the interface for other ILS libraries.

Bug fixes

Manage Account Configuration Access Update

We are updating access permissions for the Manage Account tab in the Staff Dashboard to ensure proper configuration management for consortial libraries.

The Manage Account tab, which allows customization of features displayed on the Manage Account screen in your app, will now be accessible only at the consortial level rather than by individual member libraries within a consortium. This change addresses an access configuration issue where member libraries within consortia were incorrectly given individual control over these settings. For consortial environments, these settings should be managed centrally to ensure consistency across all member libraries.

Impact

  • Consortial administrators: No change in functionality, but you are now the sole managers of these settings for all member libraries
  • Member libraries within consortia: The Manage Account tab will no longer be visible in your Staff Dashboard
  • Standalone libraries: No impact; your access remains unchanged
