How do I stop my library from getting International Requests?

Resolution

If your library is in the United States, follow the steps below to create a deflection policy for the Profiled Group Libraries outside of US.

  1. Log in to the ILL Policies Directory.
  2. Go to the Policies tab.
  3. In the Deflections section, click the Add button to create a new deflection policy.
  4. Enter a Policy Name, select the Request type of Loan, and select the Deflection type of Enable Real Time Deflection.
  5. In the Borrowers section, specify to Include the group Libraries outside of US.
  6. You can optionally add a Note about your deflection policy. Then click Save.

 

If your library is in Canada, follow the steps below to create a deflection policy for the Profiled Group CDNG.

  1. Log in to the ILL Policies Directory.
  2. Go to the Policies tab.
  3. In the Deflections section, click the Add button to create a new deflection policy.
  4. Enter a Policy Name, select the Request type of Loan, and select the Deflection type of Enable Real Time Deflection.
  5. In the Borrowers section, specify to Exclude the profiled group CDNG.
  6. You can optionally add a Note about your deflection policy. Then click Save.

 

For libraries outside of the United States and Canada:

If your library is not in the U.S., you can set up a custom group of libraries you will lend to, and then set up the deflection as outlined above, except that you will EXCLUDE the group you created from your deflection. You can pull the list of symbols for libraries you want to lend to from the ILL Policies Directory's Search function. Under Countries, select the country you're located within or want to lend to, and then click on the green Search button. A list will appear, and at the top will be a button that says "Display Symbols." Once this text box appears, copy all of the symbols out. From here, you can paste them into a new Custom Holdings Group in the OCLC Service Configuration. 

To set up a new Custom Holdings Group:

  1. Click Create New Custom Holdings Group.
  2. Enter the Custom Holdings Groups Name, and optionally, a Description.
  3. Click Add/Edit symbol(s).
  4. In the Add/Edit OCLC symbols window, add the symbols in the box provided. Separate multiple symbols with a space.
  5. Click Update Symbols.
  6. Click Save as New.

When that's done, head back to the ILL Policies Directory and create a new blanket deflection:

  1. Log in to the ILL Policies Directory.
  2. Go to the Policies tab.
  3. In the Deflections section, click the Add button to create a new deflection policy.
  4. Enter a Policy Name, select the Request type of Loan, and select the Deflection type of Enable Real Time Deflection.
  5. In the Borrowers section, specify to Exclude the custom group you just created
  6. You can optionally add a Note about your deflection policy. Then click Save.

Additional information

In the Profile section of the OCLC Policies Directory, your Profile tab may still list you as lending materials internationally. Following the steps below will change your profile tab to say None in the International Lender section:

  1. Log in to the ILL Policies Directory.
  2. Go to the Policies tab.
  3. Edit all of your Loan and Copies policies.
  4. Under Location, select Include, then select your country. If you do this for all of your Loans and Copies policies, you will be listed as None in the International Lender section of the Policies Directory.
