How does the "Logon As User" button work in ILLiad?

Applies to
  • ILLiad
Answer

The Logon As User function allows us to see a user's account from TestWeb. The url of TestWeb is determined by the StaffProxyWebUrl key in Customization Manager. Often, when a library switches from using ILLiad Authentication to RemoteAuth or SAML, Logon As User will stop working because TestWeb is within the main ILLiad folder, which requires authentication to access.

If your institution uses RemoteAuth and is hosted by OCLC, contact OCLC Support and we will make the changes. Self-hosted institutions will need to make these changes:

  1. Go C:\inetpub\wwwroot\illiad
  2. Move the TestWeb directory out of the ILLiad directory and into the wwwroot directory, C:\inetpub\wwwroot
  3. Open the Webpath.txt in the TestWeb folder and edit the path to match the new location of the TestWeb directory. For example, C:\inetpub\wwwroot\illiad\testweb to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\testweb
  4. Change the StaffProxyWebURL Key to the new web address for TestWeb: https://illiadaddress.site.edu/TestWeb/
  5. In the IIS on the server, open the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions. There should be a TestWeb directory already listed that you can change from https://illiadaddress.site.edu/illiad/TestWeb/ to https://illiadaddress.site.edu/TestWeb/
  6. Restart the IIS, close and restart the Client, and try the Logon As User button again. If it still doesn't work, contact OCLC Support.
