How do we get our records into WorldCat?

Applies to
  • WorldShare Record Manager
  • Connexion
  • Digital Collection Gateway
  • WorldShare Collection Manager
Answer

There are various ways to get records into WorldCat.  Harvesting your metadata using Digital Collection Gateway, cataloging the records using Connexion, cataloging the records using WorldShare Record Manager, and creating a Data Sync Bibliographic collection in WorldShare Collection Manager are all ways to get records to display in WorldCat .

If your records are held inside an OAI-PMH compliant digital repository, you can use our free software Digital Collection Gateway to harvest the metadata into WorldCat.  If you are not using an OAI-PMH  compliant digital repository, you can  catalog the records using Connexion or WorldShare Record Manager. Finally, if the records are already cataloged,  you can do a Data Sync Bibliographic collection and send all the records at once.

Additional information

If you need assistance in cataloging, OCLC offers contract cataloging.  Also, we have a quality control team that is here to assist you with any cataloging questions you may have.  They can be contacted at: askqc@oclc.org.
