Characters are garbled when trying to import record through the Z39.50 Connection into Connexion Client

Symptom
  • Diacritics and characters from world languages are garbled when trying to import records through the Z39.50 Connection into Connexion Client.
Applies to
  • Connexion Client
Resolution

The Z39.50 connection only supports the MARC record format. It does not support UTF-8 characters and diacritics. You can instead export the files from your ILS to your computer and import them manually into Connexion.

  1. Export the records into a file from your ILS
  2. When importing the record into Connexion, change the setting under Record Characteristics >> Bibliographic Records >> Character Set to UTF-8 Unicode.
  3. The records should now carryover with their original characters and diacritics in Connexion
