Z39.50 Options
Find out how to access and use the Z39.50 tab on the Options window in Connexion client.
Purpose of the Z39.50 Options window
- Set parameters for connecting to your integrated local system (ILS) to retrieve a local system record and import the record into the client. Use the local system record to add a new record to WorldCat, create an authority record from a heading in the record, etc.
Access the Z39.50 Options window
- Navigate to Tools > Options > Z39.50.
- Enter or select Z39.50 configuration settings for your local system for retrieving a record by local system number. You are required to enter a host name, the local system port number, and the database name.
- Click OK or Apply.

Z39.50 Options window: Features and buttons

| Host Name or IP Address box | (Required) Enter the local system name. Default: library.mit.edu Note: OCLC services cannot be accessed via IP address. |

| Database Name box | (Required) Not case-sensitive. Default: mit01pub |
| User Name box | (Optional) If you do not enter this setting in options, the client prompts you to enter it when you connect (Tools > Z39.50 > Connect). Case sensitivity depends on your local system requirements. Default: Blank |
| Password box | (Optional) If you do not enter this setting in options, the client prompts you to enter it when you connect. You must enter a password when prompted, unless not required by your local system. Case sensitivity depends on your local system requirements. Default: Blank |
| Preferred Message Size box | The client uses the default unless you change it. Default: 105000 bytes |
| Initialization Delay (seconds) box | (Optional) Enter the number of seconds you want the client to wait before initializing the connection, if you want a delay. Default: 0 seconds |
| Maximum Record Size box | The client uses the default unless you change it. Default: 105000 bytes |
| Connection Retries box | (Optional) Enter the number of times you want the client to try to connect, if you want to retry automatically. Default: 0 |

| Local Record Use Attribute | Open the Z39.50 Local Record Use Attribute window to define a use value for searching for local system record numbers. Default: 12 (Optional) Select structure, truncation, and relation attributes for searching. Default: Unspecified for all attributes |

| Cancel | Cancel any changes you made and close the window. |
| Apply | Apply the settings you entered without closing the Options window. You can continue checking or changing other options settings. |
