Keymaps

Find out how to access and use the Keymaps window in Connexion client.

Purpose of the Keymaps window

  • Assign keystroke shortcuts for menu items, diacritics/special characters, macros, or text strings.
  • Select a default keymap (a file of key assignments).
  • Open the Keymap Organizer window to work with keymap files.
  • Reset keystrokes to default.
  • Unassign any keystroke shortcut.
  • List your customized keystrokes.
  • Disable default keystroke shortcuts.

Access the Keymaps window

To assign a keystroke shortcut:

  1. Navigate to Tools > Keymaps or press <Alt><T><K>.
  2. (Optional) Select a keymap file to store keystrokes.
  3. Select the category of keystrokes you want to assign.
  4. Select the item within the category. If a keystroke is already assigned to the item, it displays in the Current Shortcut Keys field.
  5. Place the cursor in the Press New Shortcut Key field and press the keys you want to use.
  6. Click Assign. If the keystroke is already assigned, the client displays the item it is assigned to in shortcut Key Assigned to.
  7. When finished, click OK or Apply.

Keymaps window: Features and buttons

Feature How to use
Select Keymap File list
  • Select the keymap file you want to work with. The client supplies a keymap file, Custom.Keymap.xml, that contains the default keystroke shortcuts and any custom keystrokes you assign or reassign.

    Default path and file name: X:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\OCLC\Connex\MyProfile\Custom.Keymap.xml, where X is the letter of your hard drive. 
  • The client automatically stores any keystroke shortcuts you add or change in Custom.Keymap.xml.
    Or
    You can create other keymap files in the Keymap Organizer window. Click Organizer to open.
  • You can also:
    • List all custom key assignments in the selected keymap file.
    • Unassign any keystroke shortcut, including a default assignment.
    • Disable all default keystroke assignments.
    • Reset key assignments to the default.
Default Keymap check box Click the check box to set the selected keymap file as the default.
Display Commands for Category buttons Click one of the following categories to display a list of current items to which you can assign to keys:
  • Menu Item
  • Macro
  • Character
  • Text [string]
Menu Items/Macros/Characters/Text list Use the list to view or select a menu item, macro, character, or text string for which you want to change or create a keystroke shortcut.

This list changes and is named according to the category you select in the Display Commands for Category.
Current Shortcut Keys View the keystroke currently assigned to the menu item, macro, character, or text string selected in the list.
Press New Shortcut Key text field Create or change a keystroke assignment:
  1. Select an item in the list.
  2. Click inside the Press New Shortcut Key text field and press the key combination you want to assign to the selected item.
  3. Check the Shortcut Key Assigned to display to see if the keystroke you typed is already assigned to an item.
  4. Click Assign.

 Note: Any shortcut key you assign overrides a default shortcut key assignment. You can Reset to the default keys any time.

Shortcut Key Assigned to display When you type a key combination in the Press New Shortcut Key field, displays the item to which the shortcut key is currently assigned.
Disable Application Default Shortcuts check box Click to turn off all default keystroke shortcut assignments. A check mark in the box indicates that the default shortcuts are disabled.

Default: Check box is deselected.
 

 Note: Use the Unassign button to disable a single default keystroke assignment.

 

Button name Click the button to...
Organizer Open the Keymap Organizer window. The purpose of the window is to:
  • Create, rename, or delete keymap files.
  • Move or copy key assignments from one keymap file to another.
Reset Restore key assignments to default settings in the selected keymap file.
List All List all keystrokes you assigned and stored in the selected keymap file.
 

 Note: To view all key assignments in a selected keymap file, including the defaults, go to View > Assigned Keys and select a keymap file.

Unassign Unassign any keystroke assignment displayed in the Current Shortcut Keys field, including any default keystroke assignment.
Assign Click to assign the key you entered in the Press New Shortcut Key field to the menu item, macro, or character selected in the Menu Item/Macro/Character/Text list.
OK Apply the settings you entered and close the window (or press <Enter>).
Cancel Cancel changes that do not take effect immediately and close the window.
