Add property

Add a metadata property

 Roles: Users with the Administrator or Collection manager role can add metadata properties.  Refer to CONTENTdm (new version) roles. 

 Note:  An All Metadata Properties template is automatically created in your instance of CONTENTdm (new version). Every time a property is created, it will automatically appear in the All Metadata Properties template. 

From the Metadata properties screen:

1. Select Add property.
2. Enter the Property name.
3. Enter the Definition. Refer to Definitions for more information. 
4. Enter the Constraints on the property to add limitations to the field.
   • Vocabulary: This property is constrained to a specific vocabulary. 
     • Select the Vocabulary from Vocabulary options. Refer to Manage vocabularies for more information. 
     • If the property is constrained by more than one vocabulary, you will first see results from the first vocabulary selected. 
   • Date: This property is constrained by date.
   • If no Constraints are selected, the property will be a text entry field.
5. Determine whether the metadata property should be a Required field.
   • If Required is selected, it will be required every time it is used in a template. If the property appears in multiple templates, it will be required. 
6. Determine whether the metadata property should be Publicly viewable.
7. Determine whether the metadata property should be Searchable. 

 Note:  The settings selected on the property under Metadata properties can be overwritten on a template-by-template basis. Refer to Metadata templates.
