How is CONTENTdm surfacing images to the end-user?

Applies to

  • CONTENTdm

Answer

Most browsers cannot natively handle the display of JPEG2000 files. CONTENTdm leverages the IIIF API to render a JPEG tileset for the expanded view.

The preview image, created by the Project Client, is also JPEG.

In either case, the image being viewed by the end-user is a JPEG; however, the hosted file will be the file format that was uploaded to CONTENTdm. The JPEG2000 file can always be downloaded directly by using the API.
