Custom Global CSS Collection thumbnails

Symptom

  • Thumbnails appear to be distorted on the CONTENTdm homepage

Applies to

  • CONTENTdm

Resolution

When the custom homepage image is uploaded, CONTENTdm creates a resized copy that fits within the default 150x150px container. The image being surfaced on the home page is the resized copy and is subject to transformation by custom CSS.

One way to test whether the custom CSS is the cause of image compression is by disabling any current customizations and previewing the difference in website behavior. The following steps can be used to view a CONTENTdm site in Preview Mode:

  1. Sign in to the CONTENTdm Website Configuration Tool
  2. In the Global Settings tab, open the Custom accordion and select Custom CSS
  3. Remove the contents of the field ' Upload a custom CSS file'
  4. Click Save
  5. Click Preview

If the custom homepage images are no longer compressed, you may want to reconsider how your CSS handles image resizing for thumbnails, or upload images that more closely match what will be the display size. If images still appear distorted, restore customizations and contact OCLC Support and provide the server number and any other relevant information.
