00-04 Record length System generated $a $a Although this subfield is not used in CBS MARC 21 currently, it has been defined in the CBS MARC 21 format for completeness.
  • During import: the record length is not put in subfield $a. Thus, it is ignored.
  • During online cataloguing: the record length is not added.
  • During export: the record length is not generated, but 5 blanks are added instead.
05 Record status Variable $b $b  
  • During import: if the record status is d - Deleted -, the value is kept, but if not, the record status value is changed into (or remains) c - Corrected or revised -.
  • During online cataloguing: the following record status values can be added or updated: a, c, n or p, but value d is not allowed.
  • During export:
    • When tag 0240/ 001E - Source and date of offline deletion of main/master level data - is present, value d - Deleted - is generated.
    • When the option record-status value is new, value n - New - is generated. Option record-status value new, corrected or deleted is generated by the pusher on basis of the log record and the target database. Thus, the record status is determined by the software.
    • When the option record-status value is corrected, value c - Corrected or revised - is generated.
    • When the option record-status value is deleted, value d - Deleted - is generated. Option record-status value deleted can be generated e.g. when – in the Master Record Model – position 4 of tag 0500 / 002@ - Bibliographic type and status - is changed from u / U - unique record - into s / S - slave record -, but this is dependent also on the structure of the target database.
    • In all other cases, the record status is exported, but when the value is missing, the following value is generated: c - Corrected or revised -.
06 Type of record Variable $c $c Although this subfield is not used in CBS MARC 21 currently, it has been defined in the CBS MARC 21 format for completeness.
  • During import: the type of record value is put in subfield $c.
  • During online cataloguing: all types of record values can be added or updated.
  • During export: the type of record is exported. When the value is missing, the following value is generated: a - Language material -.

07 Bibliographic level Variable $d $d This has a close relation with, but is not the same as field 0500 / 002@ - Bibliographic type and status - subfield $0 position 2 - Bibliographic level -.
  • During import: the bibliographic level value is put in subfield $d.
  • During online cataloguing: all bibliographic level values can be added or updated.
  • During export: the bibliographic level value is exported.
    • When the value is missing, value s - Serial - is generated, when at least one of the following tags is present:
      • 310 - Current Publication Frequency -
      • 321 - Former Publication Frequency -
      • 362 - Dates of Publication and/or Sequential Designation -
    • Value m - Monograph/Item - is used in other cases.

If wanted, it is possible to make this more specific.

08 Type of control Variable $e $e  
  • During import: the type of control value is put in subfield $e.
  • During online cataloguing: all types of control values can be added or updated.
  • During export: the type of control value is exported. When the value is missing, blank (“No specified type”) is generated.
09 Character coding scheme Variable $f $f Although these subfields are not used in CBS MARC 21 currently, they have been defined in the CBS MARC 21 format for completeness.
  • During import: the value is not imported into subfield $f. Thus, it is ignored.
  • During online cataloguing: the value cannot be added.
  • During export: the value a - UCS/Unicode - is exported.

NB Only Unicode/UTF8 is used in CBS.

    • Value L - Full-level input added from a batch process - is changed into 1 - Full level, material not examined -
    • Value M - Less-than-full added from a batch process - is changed into 2 - Less-than-full level, material not examined -
    • Value | - No attempt to code - (default) is ignored.
  • During online cataloguing: the value can be added or updated.
  • During export: the value is exported. When the value is missing, u - Unknown - is generated. If wanted, it is possible to make this more specific.
  • During export to WorldCat:
    • Values # and 1 are changed into I - Full-level input by OCLC participants -
    • Values 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 are changed into K - Minimal-level input by OCLC participants -
    • Values u and z are changed into 8 - Prepublication level -
    • Value 8 remains 8 - Prepublication level -
    • When the value is missing, 8 - Prepublication level - is generated.

Only the encoding levels defined in LoC MARC are allowed; the additional encoding levels defined by OCLC are not allowed.

18 Descriptive cataloging form Variable $k $k
