Why is Discovery searching summaries when we do a Title (ti:) search?

Applies to

  • WorldCat Discovery

Answer

When local bibliographic data (LBD) is present on a bibliographic record, behind-the-scenes metadata from the parent record, such as the title, author, subject, and notes fields, are copied into the LBD in a keyword field.

When the user searches ti:(search term), they are performing a title search of the parent bib records and a keyword search of the LBDs. Using the keyword index is how the system currently searches over LBD.
