Embargoed article appearing in a search

Applies to
  • WorldCat Discovery
Answer

When WorldCat Discovery calls the knowledge base to see if there is a link to surface, it uses the article publication date to determine if it falls within the coverage.

When only a year is provided, to determine if the article falls within coverage, the call to the knowledge base populates the month and day as 01-01, and because that date may fall within the full text coverage range a link will display.

This is a known issue when it comes to determining whether or not a knowledge base link for titles with moving wall embargoes should surface on records with only the year indexed.

At this time, OCLC will err on the side of trying to provide full text access to an article as soon as possible and use 01-01 for the month and day when only the year is in the record. This will sometimes lead to knowledge base links surfacing on a record before the full text is truly available.
