Insert field 006

Find out how to access and use the Insert field 006 window in Connexion client.

Purpose of the Insert field 006 window

  • Edit an existing 006 using guided entry.
  • Insert field 006 in a record for any available MARC format using guided entry. MARC formats are:
    • Books
    • Computer files
    • Continuing resources (formerly called Serials; includes both serials and integrating resources material types)
    • Maps
    • Mixed materials
    • Scores
    • Sound recordings
    • Visual materials

Access the Insert field 006 window

Edit an existing 006 field

Place the cursor in the 006 field you want to edit, and click Edit > Guided Entry > Edit or press <Ctrl><Shift><X>.

 Note:

  • The guided entry window that opens contains the existing 006 data.
  • Guided entry is also available for editing 541 and 538 fields. See separate topic for Insert [or Edit] Field 541 [or 583] window.
  • If the cursor is not located in an 006, 541, or 538 field, you get an error message.

Create a new 006 field

  1. Navigate to Edit > Guided Entry > Insert 006 and then click the MARC format you want to use, or press a shortcut key (<Ctrl><Alt><Shift> and then press the letter for the appropriate format), as follows:
    • Books or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><B>
    • Computer Files or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><P>
    • Continuing Resources or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><L>
    • Maps or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><M>
    • Mixed Materials or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><I>
    • Scores or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><C>
    • Sound Recordings or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><R>
    • Visual Materials or press <Ctrl><Alt><Shift><V>
  2. Enter values for the elements shown as appropriate for your selected MARC record format.
  3. Click OK.

Insert field 006 window: Features and buttons

Feature How to use
Element name (hot linked) and adjacent text fields
  1. Enter or edit a value in a text field for an element.
  2. (Optional) Click a linked element name to open the Bibliographic Formats and Standards description of the fixed field element.

 Note: The valid code for the format you selected to create or for the existing field you selected to edit appears in the Type text box. Other boxes include default values for elements if you are creating a new 006 or existing values if you are editing an existing 006.

 

Button name Click the button to...
Back If the record contains more than one 006 field, edit the previous 006 field. The window displays the existing values of the previous field.
Next If the record contains more than one 006 field, edit the next 006 field. The window displays the existing values of the next field.
OK Apply the settings you entered and close the window.
Cancel Cancel any changes you made and close the window.
