Overview

This release of CONTENTdm improved the tracking of Event Parameters in Google Analytics 4 in CONTENTdm. Specifically, the item_id and parent_id now have the collection alias as part of the value to help identify which collection the item is from. The new format is collectionAlias/id/itemID. We also added a few parameters to some events we missed last time.

After the install, you will see the item_id and parent_id being tracked in the new format. If you have already added Custom Dimensions to your GA4, you don't need to do anything. If you haven't and would like to collect these helpful event parameters for your website, we recommend adding the custom dimensions following the instructions on the help page.

Google Universal Analytics will stop collecting data on July 1, 2023. We strongly recommend that you start using Google Analytics 4 if you haven't done so already. Visit Use Google Analytics 4 in CONTENTdm for more information.
