Customising the QAS format

It is possible to customize the QAS format by editing the configuration file. As with any such work care should be taken ensure that the attempted customization can be rolled back.

You should also consider that as subsequent versions of QAS are released it will be necessary to test and perhaps modify the customization before each new release in used in the production environment.

  • Make a backup copy of the QAWSERVE.INI file before you change anything
  • Test the changes on a single machine connected to a test database before rolling out the changes in the production system
  • Edit the configuration file with a plain text editor such as Notepad. Do not use MS Word!
  • It is suggested that you do not change AUSAddressLine4, since Amlib extracts it’s derived fields from that lin. Any changes will break that functionality.
  • NOTE: Exercise extreme care is the QAS installation is used by more than one application. Changes made may break or invalidate the interfacing of another system.

Step One:

Copy the [Barcode] section and paste it into the configuration file above the existing [Barcode] section.

Change the section name to [AmlibBarcode]

Note: You can call the customized section anything you like but don’t include spaces or exceed 32 characters so that you can carry out Step Two.

Step Two:

Change the Amlib Installation parameter QAS Layout to AmlibBarcode. Amlib will now use the customized layout.

Step Three:

Test the QAS interface to ensure that it still works as expected.

Step Four:

Customise the data included in the QAS fields

For example, we will change AUSAddressLine3 so that it contains the Suburb and State.

  • In the default [Barcode] section it looks like AUSAddressLine3=W70
  • Edit the line in the [AmlibBarcode] section to AUSAddressLine3=W70,L21,L11
  • Save the file

Notice that L21 is the code for the Suburb field and L11 is the code for the State field. The document dg_aus.pdf, which is supplied with QAS contains a table which documents the code and field relationship.

Step Five:

  1. Go to Main Supervisor > Installation
  2. Set the Default parameters
  3. Click on Borrower button to view the Borrower Installation parameters
  4. Update the Field mapping in the Amlib Installation parameters
  5. Use the Installation/Advanced copy to copy to other locations if required

.jpg

Images may be kept on the database or in Files. The directory is defined in Supervisor, Location, Picture Directory and in a subdirectory, determined by the first 3 letters of the surname. The filename itself is the unique Amlib number for the Borrower plus an extension (e.g. jpg, gif). The default image type is .jpg
