Why am I getting error message "HTTP Status 403 - The number of requests exceeded the 24 hour quota" when I execute a search?

Applies to
  • WorldCat.org
  • WorldCat Discovery
  • WorldCat Local
Answer

This issue may be caused by a user at your institution using an API key. A person performing research by using an API key to make batch searches in WorldCat.org could inadvertently exceed the limit of searches for WorldCat, and therefore cause you and others in your IP range to see that message.

You can contact OCLC Support to request an increase to the search cap to reduce occurrences of this problem. Please note that we will only increase the search caps for member institutions, not for individual researchers in WorldCat.
