Duplicate items appear on a Discovery record

Symptom
  • On a Discovery record, the "Availability of this Edition" section shows that your library has two duplicate copies of an item when you only own one. There may be multiple examples of this behavior.
Applies to
  • WorldCat Discovery
Resolution

First, check to see if the local holdings record (LHR) has multiple 876 fields by mistake. This can cause duplicate items to appear. To resolve this, remove the extra 876 or consolidate the information into one 876 field.

Another possible solution is to go to the OCLC Service Configuration and complete the following steps:

  1. Go to WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > OPAC Statuses, Locations and Circulation Policies > Item Availability from OPAC
  2. Check the box that says "Do not display holdings and availability information that looks like a duplicate”.
