Create and manage lists in WorldCat Find

Discover how to create and manage lists as a WorldCat.org user in WorldCat Find.

Overview

Lists in WorldCat Find let you keep track of items of interest and refer back to them whenever you want to. You can also share your lists with friends and colleagues. List invitations can be sent to anyone with an email address regardless of whether they maintain a WorldCat account.

 Note: Lists in WorldCat Find are only available to WorldCat.org users.

As a WorldCat.org users, you can:

  • Create up to 50 lists.
  • Add up to 500 library items per list. After adding 500 items to a list, any additional items you try to add will not appear on the list. You can delete items to make room, move some items to another list you've created, or start a new list.

Create a list from the Item Details screen

  1. Tap the Lists button on the bottom navigation bar.
  2. From the Create list screen, complete the following:
    1. List name -  Enter a name for the list. The list name can contain up to 70 characters, including spaces.
    2. List description - Enter a description for the list. The description can be up to 500 characters, including spaces.
    3. List privacy -  Select a privacy setting for the list.
      • Private (default) -  Only you can view this list. If you are part of an institution, you will be able to see all public and private lists created by the institution.
      • Public -  Anyone on WorldCat.org will be able to view or share this list.
    4. Tap Create. The My lists screen opens with your newly created list listed. The My lists screen displays the following information for each list:
      • Privacy - Private or Public
      • List name
      • Last updated date
      • Number of items in the list

Work with lists

View a list

  1. Tap the Lists button on the bottom navigation bar.
  2. Tap the list name you want to open.
  3. (Optional) Tap the current sort option (e.g., Screenshot of the currently selected sort option for lists in WorldCat Find) to open the Sort dialog and change how the items in the list are sorted. Tap one of the following sort options and then tap Apply to change the sort order.
    • Added (most recent) (default) - Sorts chronologically by item added date with the newly added items appearing first.
    • Author (A - Z) - Sorts by special characters or numbers in the first name, then A to Z by the last name.
    • Published (most recent) - Sorts chronologically by publication year with the newest items listed first.
    • Title (A - Z) - Sorts by special characters, then A-Z by Title. Only the article "the" is ignored.

Update a list

You can update the list details for an existing list.

  1. rom the My lists screen, tap the list name you want to update.
  2. Tap the Ellipses vertical button (worldcat-find-ellipses-vertical-button.JPG).
  3. From the dialog window that opens, tap Edit list.
  4. From the Edit list screen, update any of the following items. For more information, see Create a list from the Item Details screen above.
    • List name
    • List description
    • List privacy
  5. Tap Save.

Delete a list

 Caution: Deleting a list is a permanent action.

  1. From the My lists screen, tap the list name you want to delete.
  2. Tap the Ellipses vertical button (worldcat-find-ellipses-vertical-button.JPG) and then tap Delete list in the dialog window. Click Delete in the You are about to delete the list pop-up. The list is now permanently deleted from WorldCat Find.

Work with list items

Add an item to a list

  1. From the Item Details screen, tap the Add item to list button (Screenshot of the Add item to list button in WorldCat Find).
  2. From the Add item to list dialog, tap the list you want to add the item to. A confirmation message with a hyperlink to view the list displays when the item has been added.
  3. (Optional) You can create a new list to add the item to from the Add item to list dialog. To create a new list:
    1. Tap Create a new list.
    2. Enter a List name and description and select the list's privacy. For more information, see Create a list from the Item Details screen above.
    3. Tap Create list and add item. A confirmation message with a hyperlink to view the list displays when the item has been added.

Add a note to a list item

You can add a note (e.g., a rating, quotes you enjoyed, etc.) to a list item. Notes can be up to 255 characters, including spaces, and will appear beneath the list item.

  1. From the My lists screen, tap the list name that contains the item you want to add a note to.
  2. Tap the Ellipses button (Screenshot of the Ellipses button in WorldCat Find) for the item you want to add a note to.
  3. Tap Add note to this item.
  4. Enter a note for the item and tap Save.

Edit a list item note

  1. From the My lists screen, tap the list name that contains the item you want to add a note to.
  2. Tap the Ellipses button (Screenshot of the Ellipses button in WorldCat Find) for the item you want to add a note to.
  3. Tap Edit note.
  4. Update the note and tap Save.

Delete a list item not

  1. From the My lists screen, tap the list name that contains the item you want to add a note to.
  2. Tap the Ellipses button (Screenshot of the Ellipses button in WorldCat Find) for the item you want to add a note to.
  3. Tap Edit note.
  4. Tap Delete. A confirmation message appears confirming the note was deleted.

Remove an item from a list

  1. From the My Lists screen, tap the list name you want to remove an item from.
  2. Tap the Ellipses button (Screenshot of the Ellipses button in WorldCat Find) for the item you want to delete from the list.
  3. Tap Remove this item from the list in the dialog window. The item is removed from the list
