Note:
The OCLC Expert Community gives you great power to edit most existing WorldCat bibliographic records, even many records that are coded “pcc” in field 042. But with great power comes great responsibility. This VAOH session reviewed how you can use your editing power both confidently and responsibly.
This VAOH session took a closer look at each of the MARC 21 2xx fields.
This VAOH session examined the basics of classifying resources using Dewey and offered guidance on the use of WebDewey.
Since the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) was first published in 1876, it has grown to be the world’s most widely used means of organizing library collections. WebDewey is the electronic version of the Dewey system, a full representation of all published numbers, plus other mappings and new terms that have been approved by the Dewey Editorial Policy Committee. OCLC has published and maintained Dewey since 1988.
This presentation gives an overview of the WorldCat registry and how maintaining the quality of information can help connect users to resources.
Edition statements, whether transcribed or supplied, are a critical element in identifying and differentiating bibliographic resources. This VAOH session will examine the many varieties of edition statements (and things that look like edition statements), the roles they play in automated record matching, and how they can help you distinguish similar but distinct resources.
Robert Bremer and Charlene Morrison present a closer look at BFAS chapter 3, which describes cataloging practices and special materials that present unique problems to catalogers.
