OCLC Support

My library has Real-Time Availability enabled, but we keep getting requests for items that are unavailable.

Symptom

  • You have Real-Time Availability (RTA) enabled, but you keep getting requests for items that are checked out or otherwise unavailable.

Applies to

  • Tipasa
  • WorldShare Interlibrary Loan

Resolution

Short introduction or instructions to follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the item isn't available at another location. RTA looks through all locations in your OPAC for one that is available. If the item is available at a different branch or a different library that you share an OPAC with, you will still receive a request for it, even if your copy is checked out.
  2. Check your OPAC Status Grid in the OCLC Service Configuration. Make sure that all unavailable statuses are present in the OPAC Status Message Column, and set the Status Treatment to unavailable. You can leave the Location and OCLC Standard Status Message columns blank.

Additional information

More information about configuring the OPAC Status Grid is available here

If your library does not have RTA, but you are interested in enabling it, complete this real-time availability questionnaire. For more information, contact oclcresourcesharing@oclc.org.
