Article Exchange error: "The document that you are trying to retrieve is no longer available"

Symptom

  • When trying to access an article sent via ILL Article Exchange, you get the error message: "The document that you are trying to retrieve is no longer available."

Resolution

The lender specifies the number of times the article can be accessed. Make sure you haven't hit that limit.

If you get the error on the first access attempt, then the file might be corrupted. This error occurs when the article file itself (the file uploaded by the lending library) is corrupted in some way. The file may be completely corrupted, or there may be encodings in the article that are causing problems.
 
The only way to resolve this is to contact the lending library and request another copy of the article.
