Quick start

Watch the following instructor-led training sessions and a short video for a quick start with comprehensive training on Resource Sharing for Groups. The objective of these training materials is to provide an overview of the available functionalities in both Resource Sharing for Groups and WorldShare ILL for staff unfamiliar with parts or all parts of the service. After watching these materials staff would be able to perform basic activities as a borrower and a lender such as search for items, create and process ILL requests, and answer requests. Staff will also understand the concepts of functions such as the OCLC Policies Directory, constant data, custom holdings, IFM, real-time availability, and automation. 

Title Description
Introduction to OCLC Interlibrary Loan This instructor-led training class provides an overview of the WorldShare Interlibrary Loan service for new member libraries and/or new ILL staff to learn the basics, from setting up policies and creating staff account to discover items then placing or answering to ILL requests. 

After completing the course, test your knowledge of the basics of WorldShare ILL by answering a few questions on this online quiz. This quiz can also be used as knowledge check to evaluate your level of knowledge in WorldShare ILL.

WorldShare ILL - Borrowing This instructor-led training class is designed for learners familiar with the basic functionality and protocols in WorldShare ILL or learners who completed the Introduction to OCLC Interlibrary Loan training session (live or recording). This class concentrates on borrower activities and outlines how member libraries process borrowing requests.

Borrowing

 

Title Description

New For Review ILL requests

This nine-minute video covers how ILL requests arrive at the New For Review category either patron or staff initiated method,  and how a staff member at the library can process the request.

Process ILL requests as a Borrower

This ten-minute video covers the steps a staff member at a borrowing library takes after an ILL request is placed in the system and needs to be processed and managed.
Requests: Expired, overdue, or unfilled This seven-minute video covers how to proceed with requests with the status of expired, overdue, or unfilled.

Borrower: Off-System ILL requests

This seven-minute video covers how borrowing libraries can add ILL requests initiated outside of OCLC WorldShare ILL into the system to manage all ILL requests in one place and be part of the supported OCLC ILL usage reports.

Lending

OCLC Article Exchange This six-minute video is an overview of Article Exchange. You will learn how Article Exchange is used to fulfill copy requests.
Responding to an ILL loan request In this six-minute video, you will learn how to respond to a loan request as a Lender - including responding yes, no, conditional, and responding to renewal requests.
Responding to an ILL copy request In this four-minute video, you will learn how to respond to a copy request (respond yes, no, or conditional) as a Lender. Includes applying constant data and using OCLC Article Exchange.

Lender: Off-System ILL requests

Deflections

Basics of deflections This eleven-minute video is an overview of the types of ILL deflections and how you can set up deflections for items your library does not loan through ILL, including supplier status.
