Configure Discovery

Find a description of the elements of Discovery that can be configured.

This page describes many of the elements of Discovery 3.0 that can be configured by each library.

Please contact your local Relais administrator to request any configuration changes.

For libraries that do not authenticate patrons using institutional services such as LDAP and Shibboleth, it is possible to allow guest access to Discovery.  When option is turned on, anyone can search the virtual union catalog.  At the time the fulfillment options display and the patron is prompted to submit a request into Relais D2D then a login pop-up displays and once the correct credentials are entered and validated, the request is submitted.

Landing page

By default, the Simple Search displays as the landing page. If preferred, the Advanced Search can be configured as the landing page.

Advanced Search options

By default the following indexes display as part of the Advanced Search and in the following order:

  • Keywords Anywhere
  • Title
  • Author
  • Subject
  • ISBN
  • ISSN

Each library can determine which indexes to display by default, the names for the indexes and which order to use.

Results list

Number of records returned

By default the following two numbers display at the top of the results list:

  • The number of records currently being displayed, e.g., 1 - 20 or 21 - 40
  • The number of de-duplicated records retrieved

A third number indicating the total number of records retrieved can also be configured.

Held by

Each library can determine whether to display or hide the held by list of libraries that is displayed for each entry in the results list.

Facets

When displaying facets, each library can determine:

  • Which facets to display
  • The name of each facet, e.g., Medium instead of Format
  • The order of display, for example:
    • Format
    • Date
    • Subject
    • Author
    • Library

By default a maximum of 15 entries display for each facet.  This number is configurable.  Note that whatever number is configured it applies to all of the facets displayed.  It is not possible to configure a different number for each of the facets.
