We need to restart our server because we haven’t received new requests in a few hours and there are many new ones in Worldcat Resource Sharing that haven’t pulled in

Symptom

New requests are not coming into ILLiad Lending; you can see pending requests in WorldCat Resource Sharing

Resolution

If you are self-hosted, you do not have to restart the server.  Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Restart the ILLiad Connection Manager Service on your ILLiad Web Server.  Then your Web Server Administrator needs to let you know the service has been reset and check if requests are coming in over the next ten minutes.
  2. If there are still issues,  check the Event Viewer on newer servers to see if the Connection Manager is failing. (it will have the ILLiad Connection Manager and a red stop sign)  You might see a message like:

The description for Event ID 0 from source ConnectionManager.exe cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer, or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Access violation at address 0073872E in module 'ConnectionManager.exe'. Read of address 00000000

If you see the error message, then you need to uninstall  and install the ILLiad Connection Manager service:

  1. Go to a command prompt and "Run as Administrator."
  2. Change your directory to the ILLiad Connection Manager directory - cd\illiad\connection manager
  3. Then type in:  ConnectionManager.exe /uninstall
  4.  A message will show that the service was successfully uninstalled.
  5.  Restart the server.
  6.  After restart, return to your command prompt and "Run as Administrator."
  7.  Change your directory to the ILLiad Connection Manager directory - cd\illiad\connection manager
  8. Type in:  ConnectionManager.exe /install
  9. The service will install.
  10.  Go to your services and make sure you have the Connection Manager service set up as your institution wants for the Recovery and also the startup usually is Automatic (Delayed).
  11. Start up the service.
  12. Check the Event viewer to see if it shows any errors.  If it shows ILLiadConnectionManager and the message shows:

Checking C:\illiad\Connection Manager\ConnectionManager.log4d.props for logging configuration.

Then you should be fine.

If OCLC hosts you, you would contact OCLC Support and ask for the ILLiad Connection Manager Service to restart your ILLiad Web Server.
