Simplified cataloging interface

In this course, you will learn how to use the Record Manager simplified cataloging interface to match WorldCat records to items you are cataloging, set holdings and export records, download records from an export list, and optionally, add local data to records before exporting.

For additional information about simplified cataloging, see these videos: Simplified cataloging: Search WorldCat,  Simplified cataloging: Labels and Simplified cataloging: User preferences.

Intended audience: This course is intended primarily for staff at libraries transitioning from the CatExpress user interface in Connexion browser, which will be discontinued on April 30, 2024.

Libraries with full cataloging subscriptions:

  • This training session is about the Record Manager simplified cataloging interface, which is the replacement for the CatExpress user interface in Connexion browser.
  • To access simplified cataloging menus and options demonstrated in this training session, a user name must have a simplified or basic role and no other Cataloging roles.
  • The simplified or basic roles can be assigned to any staff member in your library.
  • This session will not cover using the “Cataloging Full” role in Record Manager to edit, create, or replace WorldCat bibliographic records or to work with authority records.  For training on these topics, see WorldShare Record Manager training by topic.
