Overview: Ongoing bibliographic collection
Overview
Data synchronization is an automated process that compares records from your local catalog against records in WorldCat and manages holdings on those matching records. These holdings may be at the institution-level, such as your OCLC symbol, or at the local-level, such as local holdings records (LHRs). This process also facilitates adding new records to WorldCat.
Create a bibliographic collection to set holdings on your MARC records.
Options within the data sync collection allow for further breakout of institutional bibliographic record requirements including the following:
- Tags and subfields used for OCLC and Local System Number
- Options to add or replace records in WorldCat
- Language of Cataloging options
- Tags related to records to be excluded from processing
- Local Bibliographic Data to be retained
- Enabling MARC Record Delivery (WorldCat or the Institution's records)
This learning path discusses the set up and steps involved in ordering an ongoing bibliographic data sync collection. Ordering a Bibliographic data sync collection also includes the option for Reclamations. If you are new to this service, or if it has been a while since your holdings have been consistently maintained, we recommend starting with a Reclamation and then continuing with an Ongoing collection to ensure your holdings remain up to date.
Note: MARC data is required for all bibliographic collections.
