What is Preservation Archive and how does it relate to CONTENTdm?

Applies to

  • Preservation Archive
  • CONTENTdm (classic version)

Answer

Preservation Archive is related to CONTENTdm (classic version), but is not the same product.

CONTENTdm (classic version) lets people access digital content, while the Preservation Archive protects and preserves original content for long term.

Its job is to keep the original copies safe. The Preservation Archive stores the exact files sent for preservation, performs virus checks, creates digital fingerprints, and regularly verifies file integrity.

Data stored in the Archive gets regular checks by the system to review the health of your content. The results of those checks are summarized in a File Integrity Report. You can use the results of this report to ensure that your content remains unaltered in the Archive. Refer to Reports.
