I am unable to access an item after changing item-level permissions.

Symptom

  • After changing item-level permissions, you are unable to find an item.

Applies to

  • CONTENTdm

Resolution

Use the following steps to find the item in CONTENTdm Administration and restore permissions:

  1. Export a Custom XML file from the collection with only the Title and CONTENTdm Number fields selected.
  2. Search the file for the title of the item. Copy the CONTENTdm Number on the line directly below the title.
  3. In CONTENTdm Administration, go to items > edit > browse collection and click on metadata next to any item.
  4. The number at the very end of the URL after the "=" is the CONTENTdm Number. Delete the CONTENTdm Number and paste in the one from the XML file. Click enter.
  5. This will pull up the metadata for the item you were unable to find. From here, you will be able to correct the item permissions.
  6. Be sure to save the item and index the collection afterward.
