Can't see image in CONTENTdm item's expanded view

Symptom
  • You get no image when you click the box with two arrows on the CONTENTdm detailed page for an item in a restricted collection attempting to use a proxy server.
Applies to

CONTENTdm

Resolution

The URL for expanded view images is different than that of the image on the detailed page. It is calling the IIIF version of the image so users can manipulate the display. For example, if your regular URL is: https://regularcontendm.contentdm.oclc.org you will see https://cdm#####.contentdm.oclc.orgfor these expanded image URLs.

If you are using a custom URL with a proxy, you will want to make sure that this URL is added to any proxy settings you use with your site or any stanzas you use in EZProxy's config.txt file.

This can also happen if the image file you uploaded is exceptionally large, such as 500 MB or more. With smaller files, they will appear quicker, but the larger the file the longer it will take to download and appear in the window.

If you find a case where neither of these solve the issue, please contact OCLC Support with your library symbol or site ID and a URL to the problem item.
