"This ABBYY FineReader Engine license does not allow using the requested functionality" when attempting to OCR Chinese, Japanese, or Korean languages

Symptom

  • Project Client crashes after attempting to run OCR and returns an error that says This ABBYY FineReader Engine license does not allow using the requested functionality: "[CJK] language."

Resolution

If the Project Client Crashes after returning the 'This ABBYY FineReader Engine license does not allow using the requested functionality' error then your OCR license may not have CJK languages enabled.

  1. Please reach out to the OCLC Orders team at orders@oclc.org for a new license code that has CJK capabilities
  2. Deactivate your previous OCR license
  3. Activate the new license

Additional information

The new CJK enabled license will also be able to perform OCR in English and all other languages.
