Display image setting

Note:  We strongly recommend that you keep the default setting "Yes" for "Generate display images from full-resolution images". CONTENTdm is optimized to use this function. Changing this setting will create less than optimal results for your site.

Display image settings offer option to automatically generate display-quality versions of images when full resolution images are imported. You can also determine the display image format, quality and compression settings. Display images optimize the end-user display, and you can use the Archival File Manager to handle the storage of full resolution versions of those images. By default, new collections have this option on.

For detailed information on using display images and the Archival File Manager, see the help topic Archival File Manager.

Display image settings defined in Collection Configuration apply to all import methods, except for the Web-based Add. Project Client users can override these settings when working with full resolution files by editing project settings. For more information, see About Project Settings.

Access and view display image settings

  1. Open CONTENTdm Administration and select the collections tab.
  2. Click profile. The Collection Configuration page displays.
  3. Click the edit link next to Display image settings in the Optional Collection Settings Summary section.

Generate display images from full-resolution images

Choose whether to automatically generate display-quality versions of images when full resolution images are imported.

Format / file type Specifies the file format to use for display-quality versions.
JPEG2000: Lossy compression Compresses display images in JPEG2000 format by a specified compression ratio or by a quality selection.
JPEG2000: Tile Dimensions Enables you to set the tile dimensions for the display images. If the tile dimensions are smaller than the image dimensions, some tiles may extend beyond the borders of the image.
JPEG2000: Quality layers Specifies how to build layers so the image quality increases with each layer, and the image distortion shrinks from layer to layer.
JPEG: Quality Compresses display images in JPEG format by a quality selection. To further refine compression, you can specify a number within the quality range.
