Authentication error when trying to upload offline circulation transactions

Symptom

  • After using the offline circulation client, you get an error when trying to upload offline circulation transactions:
    "Authentication failed. Unable to retrieve institution information. Try again later."

Applies to

  • WorldShare Circulation
  • WorldShare Management Services (WMS)

Resolution

This error is a result of not having all of your branches configured as Relationships in the WorldCat Registry.

  1. Sign into OCLC Service Configuration (https://worldcat.org/config).
  2. Navigate to WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > Holding Codes & Shelving Locations > Holding Codes Translation Table and take note of all the branches listed there.
  3. Navigate to WorldCat Registry > Relationships and compare the list of branches you found above to the list of branches found in Relationships. Add branches as a Relationship as necessary.
  4. After saving your changes, try uploading your offline transactions again to see if the problem is resolved.
