WorldShare Circulation release notes, December 2017

Introduction

This release of WorldShare Management Services provides several new features in addition to numerous bug fixes. The new features are the direct result of user feedback.

Recommended actions

For this release, we recommend that you review the following checklists and complete the relevant tasks so that you can adjust your policies and workflows and train your staff. These checklists identify updates that we have determined as significant for most institutions. We encourage you to review all of the items in the release notes to determine whether there are other items that might require additional action or follow up by your institution.

Administrative actions

These items require immediate action or decisions.

Action

Determine if and how your library will use hold notes.  If needed, advise circulation staff to add the Hold Notes field to their view of the Pull List and/or the patron hold queue.

New features

Hold Notes

Staff in WorldShare Circulation can now add or edit a note on any hold.  Hold notes are optional and can be used to provide additional details about the patron's request before and/or after the hold has been fulfilled.  Hold notes display on the Pull List, in the patron's hold queue, when viewing or editing hold details, and are available for display in the Pull List Entry Receipt.

Coming Soon to WorldCat Discovery: In early 2018, patrons will be able to view hold notes in My Account.  Patrons will also be able to submit or edit notes on any hold.

Prior to this release, hold notes could only be created by patrons in WorldCat Discovery or WorldCat Local when placing special requests (previously referred to as 'free text holds').

Improvements

New Look for Patron Type Policies

The Patron Type Policies configuration screen has been updated and improved.  Settings are now grouped into three sections: General, Loan Limits, and Billing.

Enhanced display when fulfilling Special Requests

The dialog boxes used to fulfill a special request have been improved.  Additional fields (i.e. chronology and description) make it easier to determine if the selected barcode is appropriate for the hold.  Cancel buttons on each dialog box will return you to the Check in screen.

Note that the 'Free Text' field has been renamed 'Hold Notes.'

Bug fixes

Cannot save Temporary Item cost

Prior to this release, the value of the Cost(s) field could only be saved for a temporary item record if your institution's local currency is United States dollars.  All institutions can now save cost data for temp items and use it to bill the appropriate replacement cost per your library's Long Overdue Policies.

Transaction History result count is incorrect

A patron's Transaction History sometimes displayed a result count that was higher than the actual number of detailed results displayed.  After this release, the result count will be accurate.  Note that transactions involving an item that has subsequently been withdrawn and deleted from the system may not display in Transaction History.
