Create a local resource

Discover how to create a local resource (e.g., furniture, office supplies, etc.) in WorldShare Acquisitions.

A local resource is a physical or nonphysical item that does not belong in WorldCat or the knowledge base (e.g., membership, furniture, office supplies, technology, etc.).

 Note: A local resource cannot:

  • Be changed to a WorldCat record or WorldCat knowledge base record after you order it.
  • Be deleted once it has been used.
  1. Navigate to Local Resources > Local Resources.
  2. Click Create Local Resource.
  3. Update the following fields:

    Field Description
Local Resource Name (required) Give a meaningful and unique name to avoid confusion with other local resources. Follow local practice.
Note: The local resource name must not exceed 100 characters.
Description Enter a brief description for the local resource (e.g., Annual ALA membership fees).
    Default Acquisition Type
    Acquisition type Description
One-Time (default) A local resource that is received in a single transaction.
Subscription A local resource that is received on a continual basis.

Note: This will determine the default Acquisitions Type of the local resource when ordered.
    Status Description
Active (default) The local resource is active and you can add it to an order or purchase request.
Inactive The local resource is inactive and you cannot add it to an order or purchase request.

An inactive local resource will display in a search only if no other local resources match your query. If selected, its status will change to Active.

Note: Only active local resources can be ordered.
  4. Click Save.
