About binding

Discover how to bind a series of issues in OLIB.

Overview

A number of factors influence the procedure to be used – in particular whether articles are catalogued individually. In addition it is critical that the library’s users can still access the information required.

Note: Binding (i.e. combining a set of issue records into an annual volume) is not always the literal process of having the issues bound. Some libraries may choose to create ’Bound volumes’ at the end of the year once the box of issues is complete. The advantage of this is to reduce the number of issues listed in the OPAC.

Bind a series of issues

  1. Create a bound volume record linked to the serial title.
  2. Select the issue copy records which are going to be bound into the bound volume.
  3. Drop the issue copy records into the bound volume record’s list of bound issue copy records.
