Extend the reshelving period for quarantined items

Discover how to extend the reshelving period for quarantined items in WorldShare.

Overview

The Location Policy section of OCLC Service Configuration can be used to extend the reshelving period for items that are returned. These items will appear as Recently Returned within WorldShare for the specified quarantine period. We recommend also adding a public note to returned items as well for further visibility in WorldCat Discovery. Adding a staff note will allow staff members to search for the item and remove the note at the end of the quarantine period.

Update the reshelving period

  1. Sign in to OCLC Service Configuration.
  2. Navigate to WMS Circulation > Location Policy.
  3. Scroll to the right to the Reshelving Period column.
  4. For each row, update the reshelving period to the quarantine period.
  5. Click Save.

Add a public note to checked-in items

Adding a public note to recently returned items will increase the visibility of quarantine within WorldCat Discovery. Staff members can then search by the date specified in the note at the end of the quarantine period.

Add a public note

  1. Navigate to Circulation > Discover Items within WorldShare.
  2. Type or scan the barcode of the returned item into the Enter barcode field.
  3. Click Edit Item.
  4. In the Note(s) section, select Public from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter a note that lets users know that recently returned items are quarantined and specify the date that quarantine will end.
  6. Click Save.

Search for a public note

  1. Navigate to Circulation > Discover Items.
  2. Select Local Holdings Records from the Data Type drop-down list.
  3. elect Public Note from the Index drop-down list.
  4. Perform a search for the note indicating the current date. Remove the public note from those records.
