Why does the A - Z list not bring up all the links to a journal when we do a partial title search as opposed to a full title search?

Applies to
  • WorldCat A to Z List
  • WorldCat Discovery
Answer

The AtoZ list generates links to items based on bibliographic matching with the search terms used. The less bibliographic information in a search, such as having the partial instead of the full title, the less likely the AtoZ list will be able to match to the item and so generate links. By contrast Discovery matches based on holdings on the OCLC number, and so will not vary the number of links it generates due to the search terms used.
