Recommended Steps for Updating the OPAC Status Grid
Symptom
- Users need to update the OPAC Status Grid and ensure proper configuration for Place Hold/Request functionality.
Applies to
- WorldCat Discovery
Resolution
Resolution:
-
Verify Record Eligibility
- Ensure the record should display a Place Hold Request Button based on the OPAC Statuses setting.
-
Check Location Consistency
- Confirm that the Location listed in Service Configuration > WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > OPAC Statuses, Locations and Circulation Policies matches the Shelving Location name in Service Configuration > WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > Holding Codes Translation Table.
-
Update the Place Hold/Request Page
- Navigate to the Place Hold/Request page.
- Make the necessary updates and save the section.
-
Save and Test
- After making updates, save the configuration and test to ensure the Place Hold Request Button is visible on the intended records.
-
Restoring Previous Configurations
- If you do not make changes and save the OPAC Statuses, Locations and Circulation Policies, you can restore your previous configuration.
- To do this, update the Place Hold/Request module to reference the setting:
- "It depends on item type, status, and location..."
- This will automatically restore your last configuration.
Challenges and Considerations:
- Inconsistent naming between locations and shelving locations can prevent the button from appearing.
- Always cross-check both configuration areas to avoid mismatches.
Practical Example:
- If a record’s shelving location is “Main Stacks” but the OPAC Status Grid lists “Stacks,” update the grid to match “Main Stacks” for proper display.
