Release Date: September 20, 2023
The following release notes are for the SEPTEMBER 20, 2023 release of WorldCat Discovery.
This release of WorldCat Discovery includes the following enhancement as well as bug fixes:
Many of these changes are a direct result of your feedback.
When reporting an issue with WorldCat Discovery, it is extremely helpful to include the Request ID. The Request ID is found at the bottom of the screen on which the issue occurred. Including this information allows us to directly trace what happened on the request we are troubleshooting.
With this release, compound subject headings will display with a hyphen separating out their component parts. For example, if a record contained the following 650 field:
650 #0 $a Agriculture $x History $v Periodicals
The following would display in WorldCat Discovery:
Agriculture – History – Periodicals
Example on search results:
Example on item details:
Prior to this release, if a subject from a single authority source existed within both the 650 field of an item bibliographic record and the 690 field of the Local Bibliographic Data for that record, both subjects were displayed. With this release, if there are multiple instances of the same subject within the same authority, the display will now be de-duplicated.
Before this release, when selecting a hyperlinked title on the item details page under “Additional Physical Form Entry”, if that title contained parentheses, the search would return no results. With this release, those searches will now correctly return results.
In our August WorldCat Discovery release, we reported that we had resolved the known issue related to clustering options in the new result view of the Search Alerts Beta experience.
We have since discovered that the fix that was implemented has caused some unexpected consequences for searching in WorldCat Discovery. To ensure search platform reliability, we are going to remove the clustering fix for the Search Alerts Beta experience which will re-introduce this known issue. This update will take place with this release.
We are investigating an alternate fix that will support clustering in the new result view for Search Alerts. We will share updates on the planned solution and its timing as details are confirmed.
New result view (Search Alerts Beta Experience): Clustering options should be available in this view, but is not currently functional.
